Unexpected situation from, Gyaru: “You like him, don’t you?”, Fiance: “So what?”
“Hey, Nii-san.”
“Whoa?!”
Completely asleep, I was woken up very badly when the pillow was thrown over my face.
When I raise my upper body, beside me, I saw Yuuka sighing in her sleep.
Then, beside the bed, the one who was in pajama and was looking at me from above was—Nayu.
“What’s the matter? It’s late at night, you know!”
I stood up, scratched my head, and then went to the living room with Nayu.
After that, while sipping the barley tea I took from the refrigerator, I waited for Nayu’s words.
“...”
“Nii-saan... you know, erm...”
It was rare for her to hesitate like this when she wanted to say something, whereas normally, she would always say what she wanted to say straightforwardly.
But well—I had an idea of what she wanted to talk about, so I decided to start talking.
“I’ve nothing to do with Nihara-san. Besides Yuuka... I’ve absolutely no thoughts of any 3D girls. So well, you don’t have to worry.”
It’s been less than a week since the messy day with Nihara-san.
Nayu spent most of her time relaxing at home and playing and sightseeing with Yuuka. And tomorrow, she would go out to play and hang out with her old friends. Seriously, ever since she came home, she was constantly having fun traveling around Japan.
“...You know, I... I already think of Yuuka-chan as my sister-in-law.”
“I see.”
“Thinking of it rationally, it’s not like Nonohana Raimu and that gyaru are related or anything... and besides, what happened with Nonohana Raimu is a thing of the past. But even so... I’m still worried. After all, you’re weak to girls.”
Heck, thos words pierced one.
But well, apart from falling in love with Yuuna-chan at first sight and getting engaged to Yuuka, I’ve never tried to get close to other girls.
“Hey, listen to me... Just so you know, if it’s Yuuka, I can entrust her to take care of you.”
“Huh? Why are you talking about me now? I-It’s not like I need to be taken care of or anything...”
“You’re the kind of person who isn’t honest with you own feelings, right? When I see you spending your time with Yuuka, you look straightforwardly and have a lot of fun, and as your brother, I feel happy to see you like that.”
One day, our mother suddenly left our family.
This incident made our father depressed for a while. And besides, I, an older brother who thought he was a popular guy, suddenly had a mental breakdown and started avoiding 3D girls.
In such an uncomfortable family situation... Nayu had grown up to this point without being able to express her straightforwardly feelings.
That’s why, when I saw her acting straightforwardly when she interacted with Yuuka—I really felt happy.
“To me and you, Yuuka is a very important person... I’ll definitely take good care of Yuuka, and of course, Yuuna-chan is also the same even though she is in another dimension. So, you don’t have to worry about the other girls.”
“...Tch, I know.”
Nayu snorted, but then she softened her expression.
Then, with mischievous expression on her face, she looked at me.
“If you ever lied what you said... then I’m really going to make you swallow a hundred needles.”
And with that, starting tomorrow, Nayu will going sightseeing around Japan with her friends.
On other hand, Yuuka and I, starting tomorrow, finally—we will go on a school field trip.
---
As part of the summer holiday curriculum, it is routine for our school to hold educational tours for third-year students and school field trips for second-year students.
This field trip we’ll be doing will take three days and two nights—in other words, camp.
Since I’m a person who doesn’t like the outdoors, going camping with my schoolmates is honestly just a hassle... And besides, I also have one more concern.
“Yaho~, Watanae-san! We haven’t seen each other for a few days, how are you?”
“Just normal.”
School ground.
While waiting for the bus to arrive, among people talking and making noise—somehow Nihara-san was getting involved with Yuuka.
Ponytail and glasses, and a hard look. I don’t think Nihara-san will realize that Yuuka and Nayu (fake) are the same person. But since this field trip took three days and two nights, I was still a little worried that Nihara-san would notice it as they continued to interact.
“We’re in the same group, so let’s make this field trip fun, Watanae-san!”
“Well, I guess you’re right.”
Yuuka is still as salty as usual, but even so, Nihara-san still has a steel mentality.
As I vaguely saw the conversation between two of them, suddenly—my gaze and Yuuka’s crossed.
“What’s wrong, Sakata-kun?”
Yuuka must have decided to be tactful here, so in a cold tone, she said that to me.
“It’s nothing, sorry to bother you.”
I guess I should turn my attention elsewhere before Nihara-san gets suspicious.
I then turned my back on them, while feeling grateful to Yuuka for the poker face she showed.
“...You can’t behave like that you know, Watanae-san. If you are salty like that, won’t you make Sakata misunderstand you?”
“...I didn’t get what are you mean.”
“If you speak in a cold tone like earlier, won’t you make Sakarta misunderstand and think that you hate him?”
“...So, what’s wrong about it?”
Whether it was because she wanted to see what the reaction of her interlocutor would be, Yuuka’s tone of voice as she spoke became louder than usual.
However, Nihara-san didn’t seem to care about that, and instead dropped a terrifying bomb.
“Well, after all... you like Sakata as the opposite sex, aren’t you, Watanae-san?”
“...Huh?!”
Perhaps shocked by those very unexpected words, the usual cold demeanor shown by Watanae Yuuka immediately collapsed.
On other hand, Nihara-san mumbled, “Yeah, yeah”, as if she felt sure of what she said.
“So I was right, huh. Well, after all you usually keep looking at Sakata right, Watanae-san? I feel like there’s something different from the way you look at Sakata to the way you look at other boys!”
“Y-You misunderstood. It’s just you thinking too much...”
Suddenly, Yuuka tried to end their conversation by releasing a [don’t approach me] aura. But unfortunately, the extroverted gyaru did not flinch in front of her.
“Well, our field trip is still long... so let’s talk about this slowly, shall we, Watanae-san?”
---
“Oy, Yuuichi, why does your face look so depressed?”
As my body was shaken by the oncoming bus, the person sitting next to me, Masa, looked at my face.
“Hey, Masa, for example, if you’re are murderer...”
“Heck, what are you trying to do with your example?”
“Well, listen to me. Let’s say, there is a murderer who has an ‘accomplice’. If there was a gyaru who unnaturally got involved with that ‘accomplice’... what would you do?”
“What do you mean...? A person who looks like a gyaru, but whose mind is smart and mature, that means—Famous Detective Gyaru! Is it something like that?”
While muttering like that, Masa then put his hand on his chin and started to answer me seriously.
“But well, it would be bad if that ‘accomplice’ was tricked by that gyaru... So, shouldn’t the one thing to do is to continue to be around them so that the gyaru and the ‘accomplice’ don’t interact alone?”
“I think you’re right... After all, it is also the duty of the murderer to keep a close eye on the gyaru so she doesn’t get too close to his accomplice.”
“You... did you kill someone?”
Masa looked at me with suspicious eyes, but I just ignored him.
On this bus, my classmates talked cheerfully and laughed. Only thing is, the people sitting in the seats in front of me are—
“Hey, Watanae-san. let’s eat this snack together!”
“I don’t want to eat.”
“You know, while I was watching TV yesterday, my favorite actor made his first attempt at voice acting in the film. But, when he did, he sounded like he was just reading the lines he was about to so. So, I was wondering, is there a difference between actor and voice actor?”
“Who knows...”
For some reason, Yuuka and Nihara-san who were sitting next to each other kept talking together. Well, even though the ratio of the number of Yuuka and Nihara-san talking is 1:99.
Maybe, earlier Nihara-san told Yuuka that she wanted to sit next to her. Since Yuuka was being cold at school and had no friends to sit with, there was no reason for her to refuse Nihara-san who wanted to sit next to her.
“...And you know what? My friend, she took a selfie using a filter and posted it on social media, then unexpectedly she became very popular. That’s really funny, right? Whereas when she was in school the face she showed was completely different.”
“Is that so?”
...Why did Nihara-san keep on talking about such a sensitive topic?
The topic of voice acting, the topic of different faces when shown at school.... and also, the topic of what she was talking about earlier:
—Well, after all... you like Sakata as the opposite sex, aren’t you, Watanae-san?
I don’t want to think about this, but could it be... Nihara-san knows Yuuka’s secret?
---
Arriving at the campsite, we then together tried to set up the tent.
Since I’m a person who doesn’t like the outdoors, even now I was already tired and didn’t want to do anything anymore.
“Hey, Yuuichi! While there’s still time, let’s go into the forest!”
“Gosh, you’re so excited, aren’t you? Are you someone who likes outdoor, Masa?”
“No way, dude! I’m not really interested in this kind of school event either... But if we were in the forest, we wouldn’t be found by the teachers, would we? So there, with our phone, we can play Alice Stage...”
Sigh, he’s really a game maniac, I’m so impressed with him.
“No... I’m tired, so I want to rest somewhere.”
“Okay. Well then, I’ll go into the forest for a while to see Ranmu-sama.”
With that said, Masa went into the grove of trees.
After seeing Masa’s back disappear from behind the trees, I went alone to the riverside. And because there are a lot of people downstream of the river, so the area I go to is upstream of the river and sit on the bank.
Glittered by the Sun, the river seemed to give off a shimmering aura.
“...Yuu-kun!”
While I was relaxing while listening to the sound of the river flowing, suddenly someone called my name.
When I looked back, it was Yuuka in school mode, but she had an innocent smile just like when she was at home.
“I came here because I saw you walking alone upstream.”
Even though she was wearing glasses, but when she smiled like that, his eyes seemed to droop for some reason. Depending on what kind of expression she is showing, her eyes will either appear narrowed or drooping, which gives the impression of something unique.
“I’m glad you came here, but I’m worried that later someone will get suspicious and say, ‘What kind of relationship do these two have?’... Like, Nihara-san...”
“Nihara-san..? Hm, it seems she does have such suspicion? Even earlier she suddenly asked me if I like you... and almost subconsciously I would answer her ‘Yes’.”
“Heck, hearing you say that alone is scary!”
“But you don’t have to worry! Next time I’ll be more careful. I’m a voice actress after all... so I’ve confidence in my acting skills!”
“—Heeeey! Watanae-san!”
Just then, I saw Nihara-san coming from a distance.
“W-Why did Nihara-san come here?”
“I-I don’t know, but for now I’m going to hide!”
Near the riverside, there were overlapping rocks. As I hastily hid there... with a backpack on her back, Nihara-san approached Yuuka who was standing by the river.
“...Fuu, finally I found you. I’ve been looking for you ever since you know, Watanae-san.”
“Do you have any need with me?”
Yuuka’s eyes as she looked at Nihara-san narrowed. Yep, this was the attitude Yuuka would usually show when she was at school.
However, undaunted by such Yuuka, Nihara-san smiled and—“I want to talk about Sakata”—spoke straight to the point.
Yuuka still didn’t show any expression, and continued to wait for Nihara-san’s words.
Good job Yuuka, keep up that poker face of yours and get past this situation!
“You know, you and Sakata seem like a perfect match couple, you know?”
“R-Really?”
Yuuka?
“Do you remember, when we volunteered at the nursery school? There you come in a hurry, right? At that time, I thought ‘Hmm, I should read the mood here’, and decided to leave... I feel like you two have a really good match impression!”
“I-Is that so...?”
Yuuka!
“—So, Watanae-san, I’m seriously asking this... You like Sakata, don’t you?”
“No.”
Yuuka suddenly made a cold expression and said that while fixing her glasses.
No, no, no, isn’t it too late for you to react like that? After all, it was pretty obvious earlier that your poker face broke in the middle of a conversation.
Sigh, where’s that acting skill you were talking about...?
“...You’re quite a stubborn person too, aren’t you, Watanae-san? Just now it was very clear that the way you spoke implied that you liked Sakata.”
“No.”
“You know, I think Sakata thinks you’re cute, Watanae-san.”
“Really?”
“See? You must like Sakata, right?”
“No.”
Gosh, there are too many incoherent words in her speech... If I were an anime director, with that level of acting skill, I would make her re-record her voice.
“Mo~... how can you try to cover it up with such a direct attitude, Watanae-san?”
“...Let me ask you back? Why are you so obsessed with this topic, Nihara-san?”
“That’s because I want us to be able to talk heart-to-heart. That’s why, if you really like Sakata, I want you to admit it.”
“I see.”
“So—do you like Sakata?”
“No.”
“Moooooo~!!”
Their conversation kept going in circles and it didn’t look like it was ever going to end. But then, Yuuka took a deep breath towards Nihara-san who still insisted on talking to her.
“I’m not supposed to tell anyone anything about myself. Nihara-san, you’re the kind of person who can always tell others about yourself... so, I don’t know if you’ll be able to understand how I feel.”
“...Even I won’t tell everyone about myself either.”
Hearing Yuuka’s words, Nihara-san’s expression suddenly clouded over. But then, with a serious face...
“Even I—have a ‘secret’ that I can’t tell anyone.”
“...If that’s the case, then you can understand how I feel about not wanting to say anything, right?”
Yuuka showed a slightly confused expression, but she still spoke firmly.
Receiving such reaction, Nihara-san could only sigh deeply while placing her hand on her forehead.
“Well... you’re right. Of course, what you said does make sense.”
“In that case, this conversation is over—”
“Just as you said... it’s not fair that you’re the only one telling your secret! Well then, I’ll also tell you my secret.”
“N-No, I didn’t mean it like that...”
While Yuuka was being overwhelmed, Nihara-san, who seemed to have made up her mind, lowered the backpack she was carrying—and started taking something out of it.
“You know, Watanae-san... people think that I’m a gyaru who is friendly, cool, and always cheerful. However, I actually have a ‘secret’.”
While saying that in a heavy tone, from her backpack, Nihara-san took ou—a ‘gun’.
No, to be more precise... it’s the same gun I bought when I saw Nihara-san wielding it in a shop. The gun is a tokusatsu toy that makes sounds from various voice actresses, including Izumi Yuuna.
“Now, I, a person who just happened to be passing by and will change your show... Kamen Runner Voice! Already come! I’m sure, I’ll beat you...!”
『Voice Bullet ‘Change’』
After saying such lines, Nihara-san pulled the trigger of her gun and took a cool pose.
Then, slowly, Nihara-san turner her gaze towards Yuuka.
“You must be thinking ‘What is she doing?’, right? But, this is my ‘secret’.”
And then, after Nihara-san took a deep breath, she said:
“Even though I look like this, but... I’m a big fan of tokusatsu.”
[TN: Tokusatsu s a Japanese term for live action film or television drama that makes heavy use of special effects. Simply put, do you like watching Kamen Rider or Power Ranger or Ultraman? Well, then you are tokusatsu fan.]
Thank you foe the chapter, im sad to say i caught up and now waiting for the next part. I think we all knew Nihara's secret and she probably only wants to be the hero knowing the MC's situation... What i really want to see if the MC's Ex's excuse for rejecting him... As a fellow writer I kinda see where the story will go but as always I am anxious to see how this author will write it out for us...
ReplyDeleteThank you for picking this up and translating.
